This is the 1st recommended reading for 2014.
Dr. David Stoop, Ph. D. simply examines one aspect of the human mind and human thought in his book, “You Are What You Think”. As the books title indicates, this book is focused on what we think in the area of “self talk”. He takes the reader into a clinical discussion and analysis of what we say to ourselves and the effect of those thoughts on us and those around us.
Self talk is something we all do. We all carry on conversations in our minds on a daily, even minute by minute bases. Consider what we are saying to ourselves while driving, cooking, working at our jobs, even during interactions with our families and other individuals. The nature of Dr. Stoop's book is to help us take a close look at what we say to ourselves and how it affects our relationships with others.
Though Dr. David Stoop holds a Ph. D., his writing is calm and easy to read and understand. Fortunately he does not pile on layer upon layer of clinical and technical terminology but rather, writes in a more conversational tone. Dr. Stoop also uses many biblical references to reinforce his points. This is a major plus for Christian readers.
When it comes to getting a better understanding of the power of those words we use on ourselves, “You Are What You Think” has hit the mark. I highly recommend this book for people wanting to find ways to bring more calm to their lives.
