“Mr. Jones, you are definitely in the run for the position. We only need one more thing from you.”
The HR interviewer turns the keyboard to Mr. Jones.
“Will you please type in your Social Media User Name and Pass Word. By doing so, you voluntarily give “XXXX inc.” PERMISSION to monitor your activities. If you refuse to do so, you no longer be eligible for employment with “XXXX inc.” Now, how do you deal with this situation?
In the US some states allow this business practice. Is this fair and honest to the perspective employee. And what if it was not allowed by Federal Law?
Why would an employee need the pass word to any private individuals social media account? True, honest and accurate information is necessary and in some cases, essential, for certain types of businesses to function and perform their work, but this is a very small minority.
